Spelman College

Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, is a prestigious private historically black college for women. Founded in 1881 as the Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary, the college was officially renamed Spelman College in 1924. Today, Spelman is a global leader in the education of women of African descent, with a dedication to academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. Notably, the college has been recognized by the National Science Foundation as the leading producer of Black women who go on to earn doctorates in the sciences.
